Daria Kasatkina v Jelena Ostapenko Head to Head

This is a battle between Ostapenko ranked 34th in the world and Kasatkina who is 35th and what’s interesting is they have faced off four times in their careers on the WTA tour. And it’s 2-2 on head to head but what’s interesting to note is on grass, Ostapenko has won both their matches.

Their most recent outing came just about a week ago when Ostapenko edged out Kasatkina in a tough three-setter.

Kasatkina Overcomes Second Set Nerves in Opener

Things looked to be going as planned for Kasatkina but a stumbled in the second set needed course correction from the Russian. In the end, Kasatkina registered a three-set win over Patricia Maria Tig to reach the second round at Wimbledon, having missed out doing that last time.

Kasatkina blanked Maria Tig 6-0 to kick things off but just when one thought the match was all about one-way traffic, the Russian was broken in the sixth game of the second set. She failed to break back and was forced into a decider.

This time around, however, it was Kasatkina who did to Maria Tig what had happened to her in the second set – a break in the sixth game – and soon served it out to love to march into round two.

The Russian has already won two WTA titles this year and made it to one other final – which came on grass – but she will know things could get quite tight in this one.

Ostapenko Bosses Fernandez in Continuing Rhythm

Since losing to Tereza Martincova in the second round of Birmingham Open, Ostapenko has found form out of nowhere. And continuing from where she left off in Eastbourne, Ostapenko registered a crushing win over Leylah Fernandez in her opener here to send out warning signals about a potential dark horse in the making.

Ostapenko defeated her Canadian opponent 6-1, 6-2 in less than one hour to seal her second round berth.

Interestingly, the match began with back to back breaks but once that was out of the way, the Eastbourne International champion ran away with six games in a row. An opening set win and a 1-0 lead was followed by both players holding their serve till 3-2 in the second.

And then again Ostapenko took control from there, clinching back to back breaks to finish off the contest.

Having already beaten Ons Jabeur, Elena Rybakina and Anett Kontaveit last week, this will be Ostapenko’s chance to make it two in two weeks against Kasatkina as well.

Kasatkina v Ostapenko Prediction and Tip

Ostapenko, when in rhythm, is a different beast as has been on display in these last few days much like what was the case when she had won her French Open title. And which is also why it’s tough to bet against her win here.
