Sabalenka Still Finding Her Feet as Second Seed

A rise to number four in the rankings and the sudden withdrawal of two of the top four players had left Sabalenka going into a Grand Slam, and Wimbledon no less, as the second seed. It’s something she had never seen before in her career and might not even expected to start out this early.

Given her form before the grass swing, it is a well-deserved seeding too. Unfortunately for her, Sabalenka hasn’t quite been able to translate that clay form to grass as she entered Wimbledon at 2-2 on win-loss and then following a straight-set win over Monica Niculescu had to rely on another scrappy performance to make it through.

Sabalenka dropped the opening set on her second round match to Katie Boulter before breaking her Brit opponent once in the second set to level the proceedings. In the final set, the Belarusian went 2-1, lost her serve before breaking Boulter again in the fifth game.

The second seed then had to stave off six break-points in the eighth game before breaking her opponent in the ninth again to claim her appointed slot.

Osorio Serrano Annihilates Alexandrova

She is all of 19 years of age but when the new rankings are updated next week, Osorio Serrano would have broken into the top 90 if not better.

That’s because after edging out Anna Kalinskaya, a fellow qualifier, in the first round of the competition, Osorio Serrano crushed another Russian in the second round. She defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova 7-5, 6-2 despite having gone in as 9/2 odds favourite in her encounter.

In turn, the Colombian player doubled her Grand Slam match victories after having never previously won an encounter in the main draw at this level.

Making this win even more special was the ease in which it came, following three qualifying victory and the first round triumph, all of which were three-set wins for the Colombian.

Can she now succeed in the biggest test of her career?

Sabalenka v Osorio Serrano Prediction and Tip

Sabalenka’s struggles on grass and Osorio Serrano’s growing confidence will make for an interesting contrast and we believe there is a set in there at the very least for the Colombian. The games handicap market also looked tempting.
