Novak Djokovic v Cristian Garin Head to Head

Djokovic Comes Through Strong In Tight Korda Battle

World number one and defending champion Novak Djokovic returned to Wimbledon to begin proceedings in search of a sixth Wimbledon title and a 20th major title that would put him level with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the all-time slam count.

After a shaky first set against British 19-year old Jack Draper, the Serb looked clinical in the next three sets and against veteran Kevin Anderson in the next round.

Up against American Denis Kudla in the third round, it was a mixed first two rounds where the scoreline of 6-4, 6-3 in favor of Djokovic did not do justice to the effort put in by the latter. It was a hard fought third set with both players serving well to hold and the set headed to a tiebreak.

Kudla played a good tiebreak to go up 4-2, but Djokovic did well to come back and have match point at 6-5 in the breaker. The American gave it his all to equalize at 7-7, but the Serb played an incredible rally at match point up 8-7, to close the set 9-7 in the tiebreak.

Djpkovic is in the second week at Wimbledon again and is one match away from a 50th major quarter-final.

Second Week Surprise For Garin

World No. 20 Cristian Garin has had a good season with a title at the Chile Open, the quarterfinals at the Madrid Masters 1000 and at Estoril and the third round at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 as well. He also made the last 16 at the French Open, but came to Wimbledon with no grass warm-up tournaments.

It has not been the easiest of roads for the Chilean here at Wimbledon, despite having a rather easy draw.

He came back from two sets to one down against Spaniard Zapata Miralles to win in five sets in the opener, and then beat Aussie Marc Polmans in four sets in the next round. Garin looked to be coasting in the third round up two sets against Spaniard Pedro Martinez but then faltered in the third to come back and prevail in four sets.

This is the furthest the 25-year-old has been at the All England Lawn Tennis Club and will be delighted with his performance, knowing fully well how challenging the next round is going to be against the world number one.

Djokovic v Garin Prediction and Tip

Garin is a natural clay courter and not really known for his exploits on grass. He will be pleased with how far he has progressed on the grass this week already. Up against Djokovic in the form he is in, and the legacy that he is chasing, it is difficult to see him pose much of a challenge.

Expect Djokovic to win in straight sets.
