Federer In Another Wimbledon Quarter-Final

Eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer’s Wimbledon campaign was off to a shaky start when he was down two sets to one in the opening round against Frenchman Adrian Mannarino on Center Court here at Wimbledon. However, he got lucky there with Mannarino pulling out at two sets all after a slip and fall injury.

Within a week, the twenty-time major winner has turned it around and won three matches quite convincingly to be in his 18th Wimbledon quarter-final being the oldest man in the Open era to make a slam final eight.

If he looked like getting back to his vintage self in the third round against Richard Gasquet, he held himself well for a four set win against Briton Cameron Norrie in the next.

Against fast serving Italian Lorenzo Sonego in the fourth round, it was a tight first set where Federer showed nerves unable to close the first serving 5-4, but then came back to close 7-5 on his serve.

Federer upped the level from there breaking Sonego early in the second to win the set 6-4 and then breaking the Italian twice in the decider for a 6-2 third set win and a straight sets victory.

The Swiss against all odds, one month short of his 40th birthday is in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon yet once again and looking at breaking records as he hopes to move on deeper into the second week.

Hurkacz Comeback Against Medvedev After Rain Delay

World No. 18 Hubart Hurkacz advanced to the fourth round of a major for the first time defeating Lorenzo Musetti, Marcus Giron and Alexander Bublik en route, serving well and not dropping a set.

Playing world number two Daniil Medvedev in the fourth round, the Pole played a poor opening set to be down 2-6, but then upped his serving to close the second set in a clinical tiebreak.

Medvedev looked to be back to his clinical self winning the third set 6-3 and on serve in the fourth when the rain and light ended play on Manic Monday on court two, only to come back to continue on Center Court on Tuesday.

Hurkacz broke upon resumption as Medvedev looked sloppy and closed the set 6-3 as the match went into a decider.

The Pole continued the serve and volley trend, making Medvedev come in and unsettling him as he broke early again and then continued the strong serving for a 6-3 final set win and a first ever major quarter-final.

Hurkacz is now 19-11 this year, and that includes two title success. He defeated Sebastian Korda to win the Delray Beach Open and beat Jannik Sinner in the final in Miami.

Federer v Hurkacz Prediction and Tip

Hurkacz has had a good season winning Miami and then coming back to do well on the grass defeating Bublik and Medvedev this week. However, he is up against a resurgent Roger Federer on Center Court at Wimbledon.

A good match on the cards, but expect the experience of Federer to prevail in four sets.
