Tereza Martincova v Samantha Murray Sharan Head to Head

By her standards, 26-year-old Tereza Martincova will be pleased with the season she has had so far. Currently ranked #87 on the singles circuit – her highest singles ranking yet – she is sailing high on confidence and will look to move up further.
The Czech had a pretty impressive grass swing, comprising a quarterfinal run in ITF Nottingham and WTA Birmingham – in the latter, she started as a qualifier and beat Samantha Stosur and Jelena Ostapenko before falling to Daria Kasatkina.
On the heels of those positive results, Martincova put up a good show at the SW19 where she reached the third round. It was her best run in Wimbledon and a Grand Slam to date – a feat she achieved after defeating Alison Riske and Nadia Podoroska in London.
Earlier in the year, she also reached the third round in WTA Dubai and the second round in the Miami Open.
Even though her clay swing wasn’t as great (best result in the French Open with a second-round appearance), Martincova will look to make amends for that, now that she has got some good wins under her belt.

Murray Looking to Pick her First WTA Win of 2021
Samantha Murray Sharan had a late started to her 2021 WTA Tour, joining the fray only in May.
Since then, she has featured in five distinct tournaments – French Open, Nottingham Open, WTA Eastbourne, Wimbledon, and an ITF event. The 33-year-old lost her opening-round matches on all five occasions (four of which were straight-set losses).
At Wimbledon, she did feature in the mixed doubles with her husband Divij Sharan and reached the second round before losing to the pairing of Darija Jurak and Raven Klaasen.
Murray is currently ranked in the 200s and needless to say, she finds herself facing a Herculean task of overcoming Martincova here in Prague.

Ideally, Martincova should not face any difficulties in reaching the next round but seeing her clay form this season, it may not be smooth sailing. That said, she will start as the odds-on favourite.
