Cuevas Has A Title Here
Cuevas won the doubles title at the French Open back in 2008, and also has two win in Masters tournament in doubles.
Singles-wise, he has appeared in 10 finals, all but one ion clay and has won six of them, the first of those wins coming back in 2014, when he beat João Sousa of Portugal to win the title here in Bastad.
However, the last of those tournament wins came back in Rio in 2017, and he has not made a final for two years, as he heads towards the veteran stage of his career.
He has, however, enjoyed success on the Challenger tour in 2021, winning the event in Lyon last month, where he beat the Swede Elias Ymer in the final.
Suffering a first round defeat at Wimbledon to the Swede Laslo Djere, he entered another Challenger event in Salzburg last week, only to lose to Juan-Ignacio Londero of Argentina in the quarter-finals.
His best performance of the year on the senior tour came in Geneva in May, where he reached the semi-finals, beating Grigor Dimitrov along the way, before he was eventually defeated by Denis Shapovalov.
Gombos Will Hope for a Better Showing
Slovak number one Gombos has never won a senior ATP title, although he has enjoyed a fair degree of success on the junior tours, where he has appeared in 24 finals, winning ten of them, with half his tournament victories coming in clay.
His best performance of the year so fae came in Marbella in April, where he reached the third round before losing to the Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas.
And he also reached the semi—final of a Challenger tour event in the Czech Republic on clay.
However, he lost in the first round of the French Open, Eastbourne, and most recently Wimbledon, where he was defeated by the American Tennys Sandgren in four sets.
