Barbora Krejcikova v Isabella Shinikova Head to Head

Krejcikova and Shinikova will be facing off for the first time in a competitive encounter.

Krejcikova Returns Home Following Brilliant Run

She was ranked 66th in the world at the start of the season. Krejickova is now one solid performance away from breaking into the top 10 of the women’s rankings and she has a lot to thank her clay court performances for that transformation.

There has been one solid showing on hard court too, sure, when she made the final at WTA Dubai this year, but her real resurrection came about in Rome where she first defeated Sofia Kenin and then took Iga Swiatek to three sets before losing a close one.

At the Strasbourg Open which followed, the Czech player was nearly unstoppable, sending the likes of Ekaterina Alexandrova, Caroline Garcia and Sorana Cirstea packing.

And then, as if to prove that maiden title in Strasbourg was no fluke, Krejcikova went on to lift the French Open title as well. This time around, she overcame players of the pedigree of Elina Svitolina, Cori Gauff, Sloane Stephens, Maria Sakkari and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to win the tournament.

And armed with this 12-match winning run on clay, Krejcikova will look to start off with a sparkling showing to make it to round two. Can her 217th-ranked opponent put up any fight?

Shinikova Hasn’t Won in a While

29-year-old Shinikova has been around on the tennis circuit for a while but with a career-best rank of 133rd in the world, she will know the kind of task she is up against in this opener.

In fact the last time Shinikova won a main draw match on the WTA tour, it had come in April 2019 when she got past Tatjana Maria in the Rabat Open opener. Since then, her only win came on the WTA $125k circuit where, again, she won a round.

As a result, Shinikova has fallen to 217th in the world at present, and even winning two qualifying rounds to make the main draw is an achievement unlocked – she is yet to appear in the main draw of a tournament this season.

However, up against a player of the pedigree of Krejcikova, it should come as no surprise she will start off as a heavy second-favourite.

Krejcikova v Shinikova Prediction and Tip

It’s as straightforward as they come for the French Open champion and she should make it through to the next stage with much ease. Straight-set win for Krejcikova expected.

Tip: Krejcikova to win in straight sets: 2/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
