Stefanos Tsitsipas v Dominik Koepfer Head to Head

No previous matches at either the ATP level or Challenger circuit have been played between these two players. They did meet once in 2014 on the Futures circuit and Tsitsipas had needed three sets to get past Koepfer.

Tsitsipas Returns to Clay after Wimbledon Debacle

Typically a pro on hard courts, Tsitsipas looked to have turned his game on for clay this season and that can be seen from his 22-4 win-loss record on that surface.

Not to mention, Tsitsipas enters this tournament on the back of a French Open runnerup trophy, after having so close to winning the title against Novak Djokovic in the final at Roland-Garros.

Tsitsipas followed it up with a lacklustre showing at Wimbledon, having come into the tournament unprepared and lost his first round encounter there. It was also the manner of defeat, a straight-set loss to France Tiafoe which was an indicator it was more a mental thing than anything else.

He will now have a chance to put all of that behind him as the Greek number one looks to get going again. With the US Open swing coming up next, his participation on the clay courts here might have been bit of a surprise for most but given how well he has gone on this surface all season, it might just be what he needs to get back into match fitness.

Koepfer Scrapes Past Marterer

It was a matter of close but no cigar for Maximilian Marterer as Koepfer managed to scrape past his fellow German opponent after registering a three-set win in the opening round.

Koepfer was on court for two hours and 34 minutes and needed two tie-breakers in three sets to get past Marterer.

Rather interestingly, Koepfer did not break his opponent even once in the entire match, frittering away all of the six break-points he had in the encounter. On the other hand, Marterer broke twice – both in the second set – to take what looked like control of the encounter.

It was Koepfer’s fighting spirit that kept him in the contest as he also managed to save six other break-points before turning the screws in the final set tie-breaker.

Tsitsipas v Koepfer Prediction and Tip

It’s Tsitsipas who starts off a favourite and while there might be some amount of rustiness involved, Koepfer might find it tough to follow up the gruelling battle of the first round with another against Tsitsipas.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win in straight sets: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
