Katerina Siniakova v Tereza Smitkova Head to Head

There have been two meetings in the past between these two players with Siniakova having won the qualifier at Linz in 2014 and Smitkova retaliating with a main victory at Shenzhen the following year.

Siniakova Jogs Past Jodie

Continuing from where she had left off during the grass swing, Siniakova registered an easy first round win over Britain’s Jodie Burrage to move into the round of 16.

Siniakova needed an hour and 10 minutes to come through her opener, with Burrage only offering a semblance of resistance at the start of the second set before capitulating to a 6-0, 6-4 loss.

After Siniakova had broken Burrage three times in the first set to clinch it, she fell a break down twice. The first time Siniakova came back immediately to level proceedings but Burrage held that advantage till she served at 4-3.

The Czech broke back and then made it two in two to complete the win, one that followed a runnerup trophy at Bad Homburg and a third round appearance at Wimbledon.

Interestingly, however, this was her first main draw win in an outdoor hard court tournament for the season. Can she make it two in two?

Smitkova Trying to Roll Back Time

She was once ranked 57th in the world but the 26-year-old Smitkova has fallen away drastically since. The reasons have been multiple but the fact is she needs a few of the results of the kind she had in the first round to change things around.

In her opener here, Smitkova managed a 6-2, 6-2 crushing of Maddison Inglis to set up this meeting with her countrywoman for a berth in the last eight.

Smitkova, who had last won a main draw match in February 2019, needed just an hour and two minutes to complete the victory but the relief was rather palpable for the Czech player. She had been a top-150 player, today she is 478th in the world.

She now has an enormous task of going past Siniakova in this second round match but for now, Smitkova would love to take the positives from a rare WTA match win and hope to put up a fight here.

Siniakova v Smitkova Prediction and Tip

No surprises to see Siniakova starting out at 1/6 to win this and 1/2 to do that in straight sets but for slightly better returns you could go for the games handicap.
