Tamara Zidansek v Mandy Minella Head to Head

Both have won once from their two previous meetings at lower level tournaments. Minella won in three in 2018 and Zidansek won in Bol in straight sets in 2019.

Top seed and World No. 50 Tamara Zidansek of Slovenia overcame a first set deficit to beat Russia’s Marina Melnikova in the opening round of the Lausanne Open on Monday.

Zidansek saved 11 of 15 break points and converted five of 12 to beat the World No. 182, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The 23-year-old Slovenian is having a terrific season and the win improved her to 22-13, including qualifiers, in 2021 and this included a stunning run to the semifinals of the French Open, a major where she had never won a match before.

Zidansek began her Roland Garros campaign with a shock win over Bianca Andreescu and then defeated Madison Brengle, Katerina Siniakova, Sorana Cirstea and Paula Badosa on way to the semifinal where she was beaten by Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

A finalist at Nuremberg in 2019, Zidansek reached a second career final this year, in Bogota, but couldn’t win a maiden title, falling to Maria Camila Osorio Serrano in the final.

Zidansek is a solid clay-court player and 14 of her 17 ITF titles have come on the surface.

Minella Beats Gracheva

Facing Zidansek in the second round will be World No. 242 Mandy Minella of Luxembourg, who knocked out 20-year-old Varvara Gracheva of Russia in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday.

Minella broke her opponent seven times in the match and saved all three break points that she faced to outplay the World No. 89, 6-3, 6-2 in an hour and 15 minutes.

The 35-year-old Luxembourg player won just 56% service points but 60% return points in the match.

Minella, who reached a career-high ranking of 66 in 2012, improved to 7-9 from all matches this year, including ITF events.

A finalist in Gstaad in 2018, Minella has just one quarterfinal finish at an ITF event this year.

Zidansek v Minella Prediction and Tip
