Kevin Anderson v Jenson Brooksby Head to Head
No previous matches have been played between Anderson and Brooksby before this.
Anderson Registers Another Fighting Win
It has been the story of this tournament for Anderson. He has been put to the sword by almost every player he’s faced and yet, here he is, in the final of the Hall of Fame Open.
The South African, who was pushed even in his straight-set wins of the first rounds by Ilya Marchenko and Sebastian Ofner, has now made two comebacks from a set down to make the final.
In the quarterfinal, Anderson overcame the loss of the first set tie-breaker to defeat Jack Sock before stunning Alexander Bublik in three. He won 4-6, 7-6 (3), 7-5 in two hours and 46 minutes, coming back from a set and a break down in the second.
Even in the decider, Anderson was a couple of break-points down in the fourth game before converting his only break-point in the 11th game to clinch the encounter.
Anderson will now be gunning for his first ATP title since winning the Pune Open of 2019.
Brooksby in his Maiden Final
It could well be the season which turns a corner for the 20-year-old Brooksby. The youngster, who had already won three Challenger titles in 2021 and made it to the final of one other, has now upped the ante by entering the Newport Open title-decider.
And he got there with a straight-set win over Australia’s Jordan Thompson.
In a match lasting north of two hours, Brooksby got himself a break of serve in the fourth game after having saved a break-point of his own in the previous game. That was all he needed to take a set lead before he got into a keen second set tussle.
Thompson broke first this time around only for Brooksby to fight back and bring it level at 5-5. Brooksby then faced two set-points on his own serve at 5-6, but rallied back to push the encounter into a tie-breaker before winning it 7-3.
He now faces a well-experienced and now back in form Anderson.
Anderson v Brooksby Prediction and Tip
Anderson is 8/13 to win this, which we think is slightly shorter than he should be given his opponent’s rhythm. We still think Anderson should win this but it could get close.
