A first round loss at Miami because of left thigh injury has been followed by just two wins and six losses, most of which have come on clay. This has, again, included an injury-fuelled retirement and by the looks of things Teichmann is yet to regain full fitness – at least going by her records.
She starts off against a player who is ranked 291st but one showing a regularly improving performance.

Bassols Ribera on WTA Debut
In 2017, Bassols Ribera was ranked outside the top 1000 but by March 2018, she had broken into the top 500, ending the season at 421st in the world.
Between then and now, in just over three years, Bassols Ribera has managed to show a steady ascent and move into the top 300, currently on her career-best rank of 291, and she has managed this without having played in any WTA tournament.
Palermo will be the scene of her main round debut and she has achieved that by the dint of hard word and perseverance, winning two qualifying rounds to make it through.
After routing Federica Bilardo 6-1, 6-0 in her opening qualifier, she was stretched by Martina Di Giuseppe to two tie-breakers in the second but fought back grittily to win 7-6 (4), 7-6 (7) and seal her berth here.
