Damir Dzumhur v Filip Horansky Preview

In 2017, Dzumhur made history twice, first by becoming the first Bosnian to reach an ATP final at the Winston-Salem Open, and, a month later, the first man from his country to win a senior title, when he beat Fabio Fognini in the St. Petersburg Open.

A second title followed at the Kremlin Cup a month later and a third the following year at the Antalya Open.

At that stage he was a top-30 player, but several years of indifferent form have seen him drop outside the top 100, and, as a result, he has to qualify for many events where once he would have received an automatic invitation.

His best result on the main tour was his run to the second round in Miami, where he was beaten in the straight sets by Stefanos Tsitsipas, although, most recently, he was beaten in the first round in Hamburg by the local player Maximilian Marterer.

On the Challenger tour, though, he reached the final in Belgrade on clay in April, where he lost to the Spaniard Roberto Carballes-Baena.

28-year old Slovenian Horansky makes his first main tour appearance of the season after coming through Monday’s qualifying competition.

He has a poor record though since beating Joao Sousa of Portugal in Lyon in 2018 when he made his main ATP debut. He has played five matches at the senior level since and lost all of them.

Horansky is more often found on the Challenger tour, where was the beaten finalist in Quimper in France in January, losing to Sebastian Korda, the American whose star is on the rise this year.

Dzumhur should have too much experience and quality for a player who has not won a match on the senior tour for three years.

Dzumhur v Horansky Tip

Dzumhur to win: 8/11 (bet365)

Pablo Cuevas v Bernabe Zapata Miralles Preview

Cuevas is now approaching the veteran stage of a career that hs seen him win six senior ATP titles and appear in four finals, all of them in clay court tournaments.

He is also a Grand Slam winner, having won the doubles at the French Open in 2008 with Luis Horne, and has apso won two Masters events in doubles – the Italian Open in 2015, and the Monte Carlo Masters two years later.

And, alternating with the Challenger circuit, he beat Elias Ymer of Sweden to win the event in Lyon last month.

On the main tour this month, his best run came in Geneva, where, after coming through qualifying, he reached the semi-fianl before losing to Denis Shapovalov.

Last week he was beaten in the first round in Bastad by Norbert Gombos of Slovakia.

24-year old Zapata Miralles made his ATP main draw debut at Geneva in 2018, after qualifying, but he has had to wait until this year to make a breakthrough in Grand Slam events.

He qualified for the French Open and then repeated the feat at Wimbledon, although he failed to get beyond the first round on either occasion.

However, he enjoyed better fortune in Dubai where he reached the second round after qualifying, and them went one better in Barcelona. Notching up an impressive win against Fabio Fognini, before losing to compatriot Pablo Carreno-Busta.

He has been in two finals in the Challenger tour in 2021, losing in Quimper in February, but winning in Heilbronn in Germany in May.

Despite the promise that the Spaniard has shown, , Cuevas should have too much experience and know-how for him on this occasion.

Gianluca Mager v Pedro Martinez Preview

As a junior Mager almost gave up the sport after he was  disqualified from an event after he was caught smoking marijuana at a party and failed a dope test.

However, he rediscovered his passion for tennis, and made his main draw debut on home soil four years ago as a wild card.

Last year he achieved a major career breakthrough by reaching his first ATP final at the Rio Open, beating Casper Ruud and Dominic Thiem in the process, before eventually losing to Christian Garin.

Mager has enjoyed a successful career on the junior tours, where he has appeared in 15 finals, all of them on clay, winning eight of them, including in Marbella in April, beating Jaune Munar of Spain to the title.

The Italian made both the second round of the French Open and Wimbledon, but last week, lost in the first round in Hamburg, beat by the Slovakian Alex Molcan.

Last November Martinez reached a career high ranking of 82, and, although it has slipped since then, he remains a top 100 player. That rise was based on hs run to the third round of the French Open in 2020, his best performance in a Grand Slam to date.

In February he also reached the third round of the Australian Open and, to prove how much he enjoys playing in Paris, he reached the semi-finals in the doubles there this year with Pablo Andujar.

From there he went to Wimbledon where he also made the third round, claiming the notable scalp of Gael Monfils along the way.

Last week he reached the second round in Basta before losing to Christian Garin.

Although Mager is the higher ranked player, Martinez is tipped to win based on his recent performances in Grand Slam tournaments.

Mager v Martinez Tip

Martinez to win: 5/8 (bet365)

Duje Ajdukovic v Andrea Collarini Preview

Ajdukovic is a Croatian tennis player currently ranked 281st in the world.

The 20-year old spends his time primarily on the junior circuits, and his favourite surface is clay.

This will be his debut in the main draw of an ATP event, having been given a wildcard for this tournament.

Graduating from the ITF to the Challenger Tours at the end of last year, his best result came at the start of 2021 when he reached the third round in Antalya. However, last week, he emulated that in a clay court tournament in Romania.

World number 210 Collarini from Argentina came through late night qualifier on Monday night, coming from a set down to beat the Ukrainian Vitaly Sachko.

He finished 2020 with a negative win ratio and, already this year, he has lost more than he has won on the Challenger tour.

He has won 16 titles on the junior tours but this will be his main draw debut.

This will be a new experience for both men, who have never appeared in the first round of an ATP main draw before – indeed, Ajdukovic has never even played a qualifying match. However, given the Croat is playing in home conditions, that might give him an edge.

Ajdukovic v Collarini Tip

Ajdukovic to win: 1/1 (bet365)
