Taylor Fritz v Illya Marchenko Head to Head

23-year-old Taylor Fritz has had a mixed 2021 so far.
The season Down Under and the indoor and hard court season thereafter saw some good performances including a semi-final showing at the Doha ATP 250 and a spirited third round loss at the Aussie Open to Novak Djokovic. Coming to the slower clay swing, a semi-final showing at Sardegna Open was a promising start, but opening round losses at both Monte Carlo and Madrid were setbacks for Fritz. An early loss at Rome followed but what was the biggest setback was a knee injury at the French Open that needed surgery thereafter.
The American pulled off a miracle to return for Wimbledon and did well to make it to the third round winning an epic against compatriot Steve Johnson. In a tricky round of 32 against Alexander Zverev, Fritz took the opening set but then lost a hard fought four setter.
The number three seed will be looking for a good run here ahead of the North American hard court season.

Marchenko Looking To Revive Career
The 33-year-old Ukrainian, who reached the fourth round of the U.S. Open in 2016, has struggled on the tour over the last few years. Once ranked within the top 50 in the world, the Ukrainian is just within the top 200 in the ATP rankings.
He is 1-2 on the tour this year, having played mostly at the Challenger level. Marchenko won both his qualifiers to make it to the main draw at Queen’s but fell to Feliciano Lopez in the first round in straight sets. He also played at the Newport Hall of Fame last week but fell to eventual champion Kevin Anderson in the opener making it 0-4 in his four visits there.
The Ukrainian pulled off a strong win in the opener here against Peter Gojowczyk dropping only five games that will do good for his confidence for a difficult next round.
Fritz v Marchenko Prediction and Tip
Fritz starts as a strong favorite here given recent form and recovery from injury, where as Marchenko is a shadow of the player he was. Expect a straight sets win for the American.
