It’s been a year of struggles for the left-handed Aussie, who didn’t have much to cheer about this season barring a Round of 16 appearance in Melbourne-2 and second round finishes at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
He was also having a dismal Challenger Tour, until he clinched the Nottingham-2 title last month.

Gomez Eases Past Mejia
Ecuador’s Emilio Gomez was expected to win against Colombia’s Nicolas Mejia and he lived up to the expectations flying past his first round opponent in straight sets.
Gomez saved all the break points that he faced against the World No. 301 and broke him four times in the match to win the one-hour-and-28-minute contest 6-4, 6-1.
This was Gomez’s first tour-level main draw match of the season and he would be delighted to have started on a winning note.
A regular on the Challenger Tour, the World No. 168 has featured in two finals at that level this year, winning the title at Salinas-2, Ecuador and finishing runner-up in Little Rock, U.S.A., both hard court events.
Bolt v Gomez Prediction and Tip
Bolt will take a lot of confidence from his first round win against a top 100 player. But he wouldn’t be taking Gomez lightly as the Ecuadorean has done pretty well at the lower tier. Expect a third set to separate the two.
