Karolina Pliskova v Alize Cornet Head to Head
Pliskova holds a 3-1 lead over Cornet and has won her last three meetings against the World No. 66. They last met in the 2019 Miami Open where the Czech won in three sets.
Pliskova in an Excellent Form
By her standards, Karolina Pliskova may have started the season on an average note but with time, she has grown wonderfully into the WTA Tour. While her hard swing was quite uneventful – third round appearances in the Australian Open and Miami Open – the 29-year-old found her groove in clay and grass tournaments.
Pliskova reached the final at the Italian Open for the second consecutive year and this time too she had to settle for the runner-up trophy, falling to Iga Swiatek.
That performance in a way laid the foundation for her season-defining run in Wimbledon where she reached her second Grand Slam final. As fate would have it, Pliskova lost in that round once again – this time to Ashleigh Barty.
What’s impressive is between the Italian Open and the major in London, the #7 ranked player lost her opening round matches in three different tournaments.
As former World No. 1, Pliskova has got the skills and experience to consider herself a potential medal candidate in Tokyo.
Cornet Hoping for a Miracle
Alize Cornet hasn’t had the best of the season, thus only lowering her chances of a deep run in the Tokyo Summer Olympics 2020.
Her season so far has been largely inconsistent dotted with a bunch of early-round defeats. There have been, however, a few moments of brilliance like her second-round win over Elise Mertens in the Volvo Car Open and the semifinal run in Bett1 Open (beating Bianca Andreescu and Garbine Muguruza on the way).
In her last couple of tournaments in Bad Homburg and Wimbledon, she was beaten right in the second round respectively by Victoria Azarenka and Ajla Tomljanovic.
In the previous Olympics in Rio, Cornet reached the second round where she fell to the then world number one Serena Williams.
Pliskova v Cornet Prediction and Tip
Pliskova will start as the favourite and should reach the second round without any major difficulties.
