Petra Kvitova v Jasmine Paolini Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came in the second round of the 2020 French Open which Kvitova won in straight sets.

It’s not been the best season for Kvitova despite winning a title in Doha where she defeated Garbine Muguruza in the final. Other than that performance, Kvitova has had the odd deep run but nothing that would stand out, not as someone who started out the year as a world number eight.
Even in her recent run on grass, Kvitova, a former Wimbledon winner, looked to have begun well at Bad Homburg where she won three in a row to reach the semifinals.
From there on, however, the Czech player lost to Angelique Kerber and followed it up with back to back defeats at Wimbledon and Prague Open.
Which is how she will enter this tournament, short on confidence but knowing well that playing for the country could add that extra spark.
A bronze medallist at the last Olympics, Kvitova will hope to emulate the same this year but has a far stronger field to contend with.

Paolini’s Struggled on Hard Courts
While Paolini won her maiden WTA title earlier this season at Bol, that tournament win came on clay. On hard court surfaces, Paolini has had her struggles.
In fact, from the start of 2020, Paolini’s just won three main draw matches of WTA tournaments, making this a difficult match to crack against Kvitova.
Where she could draw some confidence is all three of those victories came earlier this season, which included a couple of rounds won in Gippsland Trophy. But with nothing else going too well for her and with just two wins from the next five matches since that title win in Bol, Paolini will enter this match as a second favourite.
Second favourite to a top-15 player in the world.
