Cori Gauff v Anastasija Sevastova Head to Head

There have been three previous matches played between these two players and Sevastova has won every single time. This includes two matches this season at Miami and Eastbourne, while there was one at US Open last season.

Gauff Begins US Open Series Following Wimbledon Showing

After a stupendous season in clay court tournaments, Gauff managed to make it to the fourth round at Wimbledon yet again this season.

Her wins over Francesca Jones, Elena Vesnina and Kaja Juvan were on expected lines but as a slight favourite going into her fourth round match against Angelique Kerber, Gauff would have expected to do a lot better than her straight-set defeat.

Since then, the American teenage prodigy hasn’t played a single match, opting out of Olympics and heading directly to Canada for this tournament. It will be her first ever appearance at the Rogers Cup and she would like to build on her performances on the hard court surfaces of Adelaide and Dubai earlier this season.

At the former, Gauff had made it through to the semifinal while at the latter she was a losing quarterfinalist. How far can she go here?

Three-Match Losing Streak for Sevastova

Things had begun reasonably well for Sevastova on grass this year when she reached the quarterfinal in Eastbourne and then made it as far as the third round at Wimbledon.

Since then, however, Sevastova has lost three matches in a row including the third round on the hallowed grass of Wimbledon, an opening round exit at the Tokyo Olympics and another at first round in San Jose.

What that does is makes this an interesting encounter, what with Sevastova struggling for form but having beaten Gauff three times out of three in previous meetings.

Sevastova does have her performance from Miami Open to look at though, where earlier this season she got to the quarterfinal in a performance that included a win over Gauff.

Can she repeat that showing?

Gauff v Sevastova Prediction and Tip

On paper, Gauff is a heavy favourite at 1/2 but Sevastova could have an ace up her sleeve in the form of the psychological advantage she carries here. Sevastova could win a set here.

Tip: Sevastova to win a set: 4/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
