Nadia Podoroska v Camila Giorgi Head to Head

Podoroska leads 2-0, last defeating Giorgi in the 2020 WTA Linz Open with 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-4.

Podoroska Storms Past Linette

World No. 38 Nadia Podoroska made her debut in the Canadian Open with a clinical 6-1, 6-2 win over Magda Linette. Not a surprising result altogether as the Argentinean has shown glimpses of brilliance through the 2021 season. That said, she lacks consistency and hasn’t been able to deliver a string of positive runs.

Case in point, following a quarterfinal appearance in the Yarra Valley Classic (where she beat Petra Kvitova en route), Podoroska moved on to lose in the opening rounds in the Australian Open, Phillip Island Trophy, WTA Guadalajara, and Miami Open.

She found some reprieve on clay with back to back third round runs in the Italian Open and Serbian Open – it is worth mentioning that in Rome, she dispatched Serena Williams in straight sets.

Then, following a first-round exit in the French Open, the 24-year-old reached the quarters in Bad Homburg and the third round in Tokyo Olympics.

Despite these seemingly uneventful results, Podoroska managed to achieve her career-best ranking at the #36 spot last month.

Giorgi Upsets Mertens

Continuing her remarkable run from the Tokyo Olympics, Camila Giorgi started her Canadian Open journey on a solid note with a straight-set win over the Belgian No. 1 Elise Mertens. The Italian dispatched Mertens 6-3, 7-5 to reach the second round in Montreal.

It is fair to say that Giorgi is sailing high on confidence at the moment. Most recently, she reached the quarterfinal in Tokyo where she defeated Jennifer Brady, Elena Vesnina, and Karolina Pliskova.

A few weeks before that, the 29-year-old was also a semifinalist in the Italian Open – this time, she beat Pliskova and Aryna Sabalenka.

But apart from this handful of tournaments, Giorgi’s entire season – especially that in the first half – is marked with a litany of early-round exits.

Podoroska v Giorgi Prediction and Tip

Podoroska may hold the psychological advantage here but Giorgi has proven herself to be a player capable of punching above her weight. Given the kind of form that the Italian is in right now, she will fancy a win over the Argentinean. All in all, expect a good game of tennis.
