Taylor Fritz v Albert Ramos-Vinolas Head to Head

The pair have played each other three times before, and Fritz leads their head-to-head series by two matches to one.

The Spaniard won their only meeting on clay, earlier this year in Madrid, but Fritz won at the Australian Open in February, and again in Los Cabos, four years ago.

Atlanta Semi-Finalist Fritz

Fritz reached the semi-finals in Atlanta, his second appearance in the last four of a tournament this year, having also reached the same stage in Doha.

The American turned down the chance to play for his country at the Olympics, preferring to remain on home soil, although successive first round defeats in Washington and Toronto were disappointing.

He is hoping to find some form ahead of the US Open, where he won the boys’ title in 2015, beating compatriot Tommy Paul in the final.

However, his previous record in this tournament is poor, his second round appearance last year when the event was staged in New York being the best he has managed.

Ramos-Vinolas Struggles Away from Clay

The Spaniard won his third senior career title in Estoril in May, but that was on clay, his preferred surface and it is no surprise that all of his tournament wins, and all but one of his finals, have been on that surface.

And his Grand Slam and Masters’ record also bear out the fact that he performs better in clay court events like the French Open and Monte Carlo Masters.

This will be his fifth appearance in the main draw in Cincinnati, and his run to the third round in 2017 was the best he has achieved previously.

Recent results have been disappointing for the Spaniard.

Since reaching the second round in Madrid, the only time he has enjoyed any successes on the tour are the two matches he won in the opening rounds in Umag. Apart from that it has been a succession of first round defeats, including last week in Toronto, where he lost to Marin Cilic in three sets.

Fritz v Ramos-Vinolas Prediction and Tip
