Grigor Dimitrov v Alexander Bublik Head to Head

Grigor Dimitrov and Alexander Bublik have had two career, head-to-head meetings till date, with the latter holding a 2-0 lead. Their last meeting was at the second round of this year’s Wimbledon Championships which saw Bublik prevail in straight sets.

Dimitrov Routed Agut to Reach Second Round

Licking his wounds from Washington and Toronto where he bowed out in the round-robin stages, Dimitrov was drawn to face veteran Spanard Roberto Bautista Agut in the opening round at the Cincinnati Masters.

Though a vastly experienced and accomplished opponent who clinched the bronze in singles at the Tokyo Olympics, Agut was no match for the seasoned Bulgarian on the day as the latter made short work of him to progress to the third round.

Coming out with a positive intent from the word ‘go’, Dimitrov had the better of the exchanges and fired winners at will past his Spanish opponent, taking the opening set without breaking much of a sweat.

Having conceded the first set in a breeze, Agut failed to rise to the occasion and engineer a turnaround in the second as the Bulgarian, wary of taking his foot off the pedal, broke the Spaniard for a decisive lead and eventually ran out a 6-3, 6-4 winner.

In Bublik, Dimitrov faces a feisty opponent in the third round who got the better of him both times they played each other before.

Though the Bulgarian will be keen to put one past the Russia-born Bublik, he will have to be at his best to get the better of the current World No. 38.

Bublik Fights Past Giron

Losing his tournament opener to Kei Nishikori at Washington Open and eventual champion Daniil Medvedev in the third round at Canadian Open, Bublik had a point to prove as he arrived at the Cincinnati Masters.

Against Marcos Giron of the US in his opening match, the 24-year-old fell behind in the early exchanges and eventually lost the first set 3-6.

However, raising his game by a fair few notches, he stormed right back into contention by winning the second set and taking the match to a decider.

The final set headed for a tiebreak as neither player could be separated at the end of the regulation 12 games. In the tiebreak, however, it was Bublik who pipped the American 7-5 to close out a nervy, three-set win.

Past record would be of little help as he gears up for a third career meeting with Dimitrov for a place in the last 16. The Bulgarian, on his day, could take down the best and Bublik will have to bring his A-game to the park to clear the third-round hurdle.

Dimitrov v Bublik Prediction and Tip

The head-to-head record makes Bublik a clear favorite going into this third-round clash with Dimitrov. However, the Bulgarian is no pushover and should fancy setting the record straight against the Kazakh star.
