Pablo Carreno Busta v Dominik Koepfer Head to Head

Three previous matches have been played between these players and Carreno Busta has won every single time. This includes a qualifier at the 2019 Shanghai Masters and two victories earlier this year at the Olympics and Cincinnati Masters last week.

Koepfer is yet to win a set.

Carreno Busta Finds Kwon Difficult to Handle

After the kind of two previous tournaments he has had, one would have expected Carreno Busta to have found more ease in getting past Soon-woo Kwon in his second round match. The Spaniard, however, was stretched to a third set.

In the end, the Olympics bronze medallist Carreno Busta came through 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in an hour and 58 minutes to seal his third round place. He had earlier got himself an opening round bye.

The match began on the kind of note one would have expected as Carreno-Busta broke Kwon in the very first game and then again as the Korean player served to stay in the set.

The surprise came in the second set when Kwon drew first blood by breaking his opponent in the third game, and then again in the ninth to give Carreno-Busta a taste of his own medicine.

The Spaniard rediscovered his tough in the decider though, holding out to ease without facing a break-point while breaking his opponent once to clinch the match.

He will need to do slightly better than that against Koepfer though.

Koepfer Overturns Set Deficit against Cecchinato

Having gone into his second round encounter as 2/5 favourite, Koepfer needed to overcome the loss of the first set to defeat Marco Cecchinato and edge into the third.

Koepfer was on court for two hours and 12 minutes to win 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 against the Italian, in a match that could have gone either way.

The German won an early break of serve in the first set, but Cecchinato surprised him with back to back breaks as he looked to first serve for the set and then to stay in the set.

The second set looked to be evenly fought before Koepfer got himself a decisive break in the seventh game and after missing out on two set-points, he converted the third on his own set to level things out.

And then in the third, he broke Cecchinato twice in a row to take a 3-0 lead before closing it despite losing one of those advantages.

Can he now challenge the world number 12 here?

Carreno Busta v Koepfer Prediction and Tip

The bookmakers have Carreno-Busta perched firmly on the top of this on at 1/4 to win it but we believe Koepfer will put up a strong fight this time around.
