Marketa Vondrousova v Alize Cornet Head to Head
This will be a first meeting between World No. 40 Vondrousova and World No. 68 Cornet.

The Olympic silver medallist cruised into the last eight in Chicago after her Round of 16 opponent Alison Van Uytvanck retired following a first set rout. Vondrousova was leading the contest 6-1, 1-0 when the Belgian called it quits.
Vondrousova, who went down to Belinda Bencic in the Tokyo final and also lost to the Swiss player in the first round in Cincinnati, didn’t face a break point in the first set, but broke her opponent thrice to take the set in just 32 minutes. Van Uytvanck had two break points at 15-40 in the first game of the second, but Vondrousova saved both of them to hold serve.
The in-form Czech had dropped just two games in her opening-round match against qualifier Quinn Gleason, beating the American 6-2, 6-0 in just 61 minutes.
Ranked No. 40, the 2019 French Open runner-up will be aiming for a second semifinal spot on the tour this season. She had earlier reached the final four at the Yarra Valley Classic in February.

Cornet Overcomes Paolini
After winning a close to three-hour battle in the opening round on Monday, Alize Cornet was involved in another two-hour contest, as she ousted Italy’s Jasmine Paolini in the second round on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old Frenchwoman converted five of seven break points and saved seven of 11 to beat the Italian 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. On Monday, Cornet had rallied from a set down to beat America Ann Li 6-7 (8-10), 6-0, 6-4.
On Thursday, the former World No. 11 will be vying for a second semifinal spot of the season. A six-time champion on the tour, Cornet reached the semifinals of the grass court tournament in Berlin in June. This is only the third tournament this year that World No. 68 has won two matches in a row. Apart from Berlin she achieved that in Charleston, before bowing out in the round of 16.
Vondrousova v Cornet Prediction and Tip
While Vondrousova has cruised so far, Cornet has toughed it out. Given their current forms, Vondrousova will be the favourite. Expect the Czech to advance to the semis.
