Garbine Muguruza v Donna Vekic Head to Head

Muguruza had made a stellar start to the season by reaching the final of three of the early competitions she participated in, winning one in Dubai. Earlier she had fallen to Ash Barty at the Yarra Valley Classic final and in Doha to Petra Kvitova.
Since then, however, Muguruza hasn’t had the kind of runs she would have liked in any of the competitions she has participated in.
Her best showing came at the Tokyo Olympics recently, in what was the only tournament she managed to win three successive matches. A third round defeat at Wimbledon and early defeats at both, Montreal and Cincinnati would have left her surprised, losing in the second and third round round respectively.

Vekic Aiming to Climb up the Rankings
Having suffered a knee issue during the Australian Open earlier this year, Vekic needed a surgery that kept her out of action for nearly four months.
Since her return, Vekic has won just five of the 12 main draw matches she has played in, culminating in a defeat during the qualifiers of the Cincinnati Open last week.
A loss at the hands of Jasmine Paolini in the second qualifying round, having gone in as a 1/5 favourite to win it would have hurt a lot.
Vekic will look to take some heart from her previous performances at the US Open, having reached the last eight stage here in 2019. It was the best time of her tennis career but form and fitness issues have taken a big toll and she will now have to overcome the world number 10 for starters.
