Cornet was thrust into action on Monday night under the lights on Grandstand court against the number 20th seed Ons Jabeur. The wily Frenchwoman competed fiercely and ferociously despite expending too much energy in last week’s WTA 250 event in Chicago.
Jabeur outthought, and out rallied the seemingly tireless Cornet to win 7-5 7-5 in an hour and 43 minutes. And consequently, she extended her winning lead over Cornet to 3-0.
The Tunisian trailblazer was broken five times, and committed an eyebrow-raising 37 unforced errors. But she made up for that mishap by firing 29 winners and also broke Cornet’s serve seven times. What was even more perplexing was that the 31-year-old Frenchwoman only mastered eight winners in the whole match.

Osorio Serrano Wins On Her Debut Appearance
Without a win in four matches, Maria Camila Osorio Serrano bounced back emphatically against the World No. 308 Ivana Jorovic, winning 6-2 6-2, in just 68 minutes.
The Colombian teenage sensation fired 16 winners, and broke her Serbian opponent five times from six opportunities. Considering this was her main draw debut at the US Open, Osorio Serrano was actually in familiar surroundings.
The 19-year-old, a junior champion in these parts, has experienced a whirlwind evolution in recent months. From winning her maiden WTA title in Bogota to now main-eventing Grand Slam main draws. She got the better of Jorovic, who like Osorio Serrano, was a former junior World No. 1.
But it seems the two players have taken different career trajectories. Can the youngster defy the odds and reach back-to-back third rounds in a Grand Slam?
