Marketa Vondrousova v Daria Kasatkina Head to Head

Vondrousova leads Kasatkina 2-1, last defeating her in the 2019 Italian Open.

Kasatkina Continues her Meteoric Return

World No. 27 Daria Kasatkina is well on her way to return to the top 10 once again following a stellar 2021 WTA Tour.

Having started the season outside the top 70, her present position in the rankings says all there is about her efforts and more importantly, her form. She won the titles at the Phillip Island Trophy and WTA St. Petersburg while later in the season, she had to settle for runner-up feats in the Birmingham Classic and Silicon Valley Classic.

That said, the 24-year-old Kasatkina did lose in the early rounds of the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Masters. She last played in the WTA Cleveland before travelling to New York. There, she made it as far as the quarterfinal before succumbing to Magda Linette.

Going by her explosive start at the Flushing Meadows, she is certainly equipped to give her Czech adversary a solid run for her money. In the opener, the number 25 seed dispatched Tsvetana Pironkova 6-2, 6-1 in an hour and five minutes. She was clinical in that match, committing just 13 unforced errors and hitting 19 winners.

Vondrousova Starts on a Strong Note

Marketa Vondrousova’s start to her US Open campaign was just as impressive if not more. She met the Romanian qualifier Elena Gabriela-Ruse and defeated her 7-5, 6-0 in an hour and 29 minutes.

The 22-year-old Czech is looking to build on the success of her Olympics journey that culminated in a silver medal. But that has proven to be a tad bit more difficult than expected.

Since Tokyo, Vondrousova has featured in the Western & Southern Open and WTA Chicago. In the former, she fell to Belinda Bencic in the opener while in the latter, she was handed a defeat in the quarterfinal by Alize Cornet.

The left-handed player has an impressive pedigree which comprises the runner-up feats at the French Open and Istanbul Cup last year. This season, the current world number 38 also featured in the WTA Melbourne semifinal and the fourth-round in the Australian Open.

Kasatkina v Vondrousova Prediction and Tip

This is an evenly matched affair that can very well go either way. After all, both players have enjoyed brilliant runs on the tour in the past and have the goods to go the distance. But if I’m to pick a favourite, it would have to be Kasatkina – she has just been a bit too good this year.
