Danielle Collins v Kaja Juvan Head to Head

Collins Cruises Past Suarez Navarro

Fresh from winning her second career title on the 50th edition of the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic, Danielle Collins picked up just her second main draw win at the US Open. She saw off the indefatigable Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro 6-2 6-2 in an hour and eight minutes.

Collins hit 10 aces, and her power-packed game was too hot to handle for Suarez Navarro who will retire at the end of the tournament. The Spanish one-hander confirmed that the US Open will be her final tournament, and is due to play in doubles.

She had been oscillating in her farewell tour across all major tournaments following her recovery from cancer and was given a standing ovation by the crowd in New York.

Collins, however, showed very little sympathy on the court. She won a staggering 90% of first-serve points (19 out of 21), and an impressive 77% of second-serve points. She also hammered 41 winners, almost eight times that of her opponent to book her spot in the second round.

Juvan Gets The Better Of Watson

Last week’s retirement in Chicago was always going to leave a major question mark on Heather Watson’s fitness at the US Open.

That proved to be the case on Monday, as the Brit struggled to keep up with Kaja Juvan’s unrelenting depth of her groundstrokes. Coupled with her abysmal record of never advancing beyond the first round in nine previous attempts, Watson’s task of progressing was near-impossible to accomplish.

Juvan fired 20 winners, almost twice as many as Watson, to just 13 unforced errors. She also broke the Brit five times from seven opportunities to steer herself into the second round of the US Open for the second straight year.

Juvan peaked at a career-high ranking of World No. 91 earlier this year when she made the third round of the Australian Open as a qualifier. She has since exited the top 100 after a terrible clay-court season, but a shock win over Collins on Wednesday could be a welcome addition to her list of breakthroughs.

Collins v Juvan Prediction and Tip

With a win over Bencic at Wimbledon in the books, Kaja Juvan’s talents haven’t gone unnoticed. And Collins will be fully aware of such a scenario repeating itself if she cannot sustain her good form for long stretches. Still, the American looks way too short to steamroll her opponent in this one.
