Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova v Anna Karolina Schmiedlova Head to Head

These two players have met only once before this, with Pavlyuchenkova winning in the first round of Monterrey in 2015.

No Problems For Seeded Pavlyuchenkova

It was a good day for seeded players on day two of the 2021 US Open. Doubts had crept in over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova’s fitness ahead of the US Open after she was forced to miss the Western & Southern Open and other preliminary tournaments on US soil due to visa issues.

The Russian was stuck in Canada following the conclusion of the Montreal tournament and only landed in New York over the weekend. She couldn’t hide her delight on social media and announced that she was finally over with the issue.

And Pavlyuchenkova did not look off pace in a straight-sets victory over Alison Riske, winning 6-4 6-2. The match was scheduled for Monday but would be postponed to Tuesday thereby allowing for Pavlyuchenkova’s travel.

The French Open finalist took an engaging first-set after 43 minutes and established a cushion in the second set that Riske could not overturn. The American’s terrible year continues as she succumbs to her 11th defeat of the season, and only has four wins to show for it.

Another Marathon For Schmiedlova

Anna Karolina Schmiedlova’s fourth straight win in New York (including three qualifiers), earned her a second-round berth, and a meeting against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

And perhaps what is even more striking, Schmiedlova has logged a staggering 10 hours and 20 minutes on court before the second round. Two of her qualifying matches lasted three hours, with her victory over Lesia Tsurenko under 90+ degree heat leaving both players heavy-legged after the match.

The Slovakian World No. 93 needed another two and half hour slugfest to defeat Ashlyn Krueger 7-5 6-7 6-3. She withstood a brave fightback from the American teenager who cracked an impressive 46 winners. But Krueger’s risk-tolerant approach yielded an equivalent amount of unforced errors.

Schmiedlova, for her part, broke serve four times in the match and decisively in the final set to confirm her progress.

Pavlyuchenkova v Schmiedlova Prediction and Tip

Pavlyuchenkova is a whopping 1/5 to cruise to victory. Schmiedlova has in part been the protagonist of her downfall. Having accumulated ten hours of tennis before the second round, it is tough to imagine the Slovak extending her stay.

Tip: Pavlyuchenkova to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
