Doi Secures First Slam Win of 2021 Against Sanders

Doi opened her US Open campaign by getting the better of Storm Sanders 7-6(3) 6-3. The Japanese player was able to win 73% of 1st serve points and 65% of 2nd serve points. The former top 30 player has struggled to win back-to-back main draw matches, doing so just once at the start of the year in Melbourne, where she reached the 3rd round, however, this did include a walkover from Sorribes-Tormo. In her opening round she recorded an impressive win over Garcia 7-5 6-3.

Doi lost in the opening round of the first 3 slams, so regardless of the result against Pegula, this will be her best slam result of 2021.
