Simona Halep v Elena Rybakina Head to Head
They are 1-1 from their previous two meetings. Rybakina won in Wuhan in 2019 after Halep retired in the first set. The Romanian got her revenge in the Dubai final last year.

The former No. 1 got a second straight sets win on Wednesday to storm into the third round of the U.S. Open. While she was made to work hard by Camila Giorgi in the first round, she had no problem in dispatching Slovakia’s Kristina Kucova in the Round of 64.
Halep began the match with a break of serve, but was broken by the Slovakian a couple of games later. She however seized control with a double break and then dominated the second with two more breaks to wrap-up the match 6-3, 6-1 in an hour and 10 minutes.
In the first round, the Romanian had needed an hour and 33 minutes to beat Giorgi 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
A U.S. Open semifinalist in 2015, the World No. 13 has had a quiet 2021 marred by injuries. She missed the French Open, Wimbledon and Olympics with a calf injury and was forced to withdraw from the Cincinnati tournament on her return due to a right thigh injury.
Halep showed no signs of the injury in the first two rounds at Flushing Meadows are she marched into the third round of the tournament for the first time in five years.

Rybakina Continues Her Dominant Run
Elena Rybakina moved into the third round of the U.S. Open for the first time in her career following two comprehensive wins in the tournament.
Yet to be broken in the tournament, the Kazakh knocked out Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the first round and then eased past Caroline Garcia in the Round of 64 on Wednesday.
Serving 11 aces and hitting 22 winners, Rybakina converted three of six break points on her way to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Garcia. She had similar numbers in the first round win over Sasnovich when she struck 10 aces, and struck 23 winners while breaking the Belarusian three times.
A five-time WTA finalist in 2020, Rybakina is yet to feature in a final this year, but has been impressive in the big tournaments. However, her inability to hold nerves in pressure situations has resulted in quite a few heartaches this season, which includes her quarterfinal exit at the French Open, and her semifinal and bronze medal playoff losses at the Olympics.
Halep v Rybakina Prediction and Tip
If Rybakina has to win this, she must win it in straight sets. The longer the match goes on, the lesser her chances become, as she has time and again faltered in three-set matches this year. Given Halep’s class, she should be a favourite to win this despite having played much less than the Kazakh of late.
