Dan Evans v Daniil Medvedev Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour.

Evans Stages Comeback to Reach Last 16

World No. 27 Daniel Evans defeated Alexei Popyrin of Australia in a five-set thriller to reach the round of 16 at the Flushing Meadows. A first such feat for the 31-year-old, he got through after staging a comeback from two sets down.

That marathon affair lasted for a little over four hours and saw the Brit take the match 4-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(1). Statistically, however, he wasn’t half as impressive as Popyrin dishing out just 48 winners to the Australian’s 77. But Popyrin was undone by his 57 unforced errors to Evans’ just 8.

But as we say, a win is a win and Evans has now posted his best results in the US Open. Up until now, he had never made it past the third round in New York.

Evans has had an erratic spell in 2021 but still managed to crack the top 30 to reach his career-best singles ranking. He won the ATP Melbourne earlier in the season and later reached the semifinal at the Monte Carlo Masters and quarterfinal at the Queen’s Club Championships.

In the North American swing, his results were less than impressive as they comprised first-round exits in Toronto and Cincinnati, and a third-round appearance in Winston-Salem.

Medvedev, Yet to Drop a Set in New York

It is fair to say that Daniil Medvedev is one of the heavy favourites to win the US Open crown this season. The 25-year-old Russian, currently the World No. 2, arrived in New York with a win-loss tally of 40-10 and some magnificent results to back his form.

Most recently, he won the Rogers Cup and followed it with a semifinal appearance in the Cincinnati Masters. Here at the Flushing Meadows, Medvedev has defeated the likes of Richard Gasquet, Dominik Koepfer, and Pablo Andujar in straight sets to continue his title run.

A runner-up here in 2019 and a semifinalist last season, Medvedev has been nothing short of brilliant on the ATP Tour this year. He was the runner-up in this year’s Australian Open and later won the titles at the Open 13 and Mallorca Open.

Of course, his track record against the top 10 players needs no introduction either, having posted impressive results against Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem, and many others.

Medvedev v Evans Prediction and Tip

I’m calling it a win for Medvedev here. After all, he is light years ahead in terms of his form and momentum than Evans.
