Ekaterina Alexandrova v Stefanie Voegele Head to Head

Alexandrova has won both their previous matches. She beat Voegele in the first round in Shenzhen in 2018 and in the qualifying round in Sydney the next year.

Alexandrova Is 3-5 from Previous 5 Tournaments

She had a decent start to the season reaching the semifinal of the Gippsland Trophy and the third round of the Australian Open for the second consecutive year, but since than she has been plagued by inconsistency, reaching four quarterfinals but not going beyond.

Her recent form hasn’t been too encouraging either, going 3-5 since reaching the quarterfinal in Berlin. At the U.S. Open, Alexandrova defeated Sara Errani in straight sets, but was outplayed by compatriot and lucky loser Kamilla Rakhimova in the Round of 64.

The Russian’s second round exit at Flushing Meadows followed first round defeats in Cincinnati and Cleveland rounding out a poor North American hard court swing.

The 26-year-old may have been inconsistent but wins over Belinda Bencic in Stuttgart, Elina Svitolina in Berlin and Elise Mertens in Tokyo are a proof that she can not be taken lightly by any opponent.

Voegele Has Struggled on Hard Courts

The Swiss made it to the main draw of the U.S. Open as a lucky loser, but was outclassed by the newly crowned champion Emma Raducanu in the first round.

Voegele has struggled on the hard courts throughout the season. The World No. 128 is 15-18 from all matches, including qualifiers this season. Her best this season has come on clay as she made the main draw of the French Open by winning all three of her qualifying rounds and also made it to the quarterfinal in Bogota.

Her only tour-level main draw win on hard court this year came in Lyon, when she defeated Romania’s Irina Bara in three sets but fell to Paula Badosa in the next round.

It will be interesting to see if she can lift her game and produce more results on hard courts.
