Zhang Shuai v Marie Bouzkova Head to Head

Zhang is 2-0 against the Czech player. She beat Bouzkova in the quarterfinal in Astana in 2017 and in the second qualifying round in Cincinnati this year.

Zhang Coming in As U.S. Open Doubles Champion

U.S. Open doubles champion Zhang Shuai heads to Luxembourg with a 17-19 singles record in 2021.

Zhang picked her second major title over the weekend, winning the doubles title at Flushing Meadows with partner Sam Stosur after defeating the all-American pairing of Cori Gauff and Caty McNally. This was the pair’s second Grand Slam title together, following their Australian Open success in 2019.

Zhang had a very ordinary start to the season, going 1-9 in singles until the French Open, but she turned things around in Nottingham, reaching the final of the grass court event.  A couple of tournaments later, the Chinese player made it to the semifinals in Palermo and was a quarterfinalist twice during the North American swing, reaching the stage in San Jose and Cleveland.

At the U.S. Open, Zhang beat Hailey Baptiste in the first round, but fell to eventual champion Emma Raducanu in the second round. The Briton was one of the players that Zhang had beaten in San Jose on her way to the last eight.

Seeded sixth in the tournament, Zhang will look to make at least the last eight round in Luxembourg.

Bouzkova On a 7-Match Losing Streak

While Zhang started slowly before hitting her stride in Nottingham, Bouzkova was in red hot form in the first quarter, but has gone completely off the boil now.

She is 0-7 from her last seven main draw matches, a series of losses which began with the defeat to Coco Vandeweghe in the quarterfinal in Birmingham.

A finalist in Monterrey last year, the World No. 87 reached a second career final at the Phillip Island Trophy this year, but finished runner-up to Daria Kasatkina. Bouzkova also made it to the semifinals in Guadalajara this year and the Round of 16 at the Yarra Valley Classic.

Her current form is very concerning, as she has won just one qualifier from her nine previous matches across tournaments, and she will be desperate to get back to winning ways.

Shuai v Bouzkova Prediction and Tip

Fresh from her U.S. Open success, even though it came in doubles,  Zhang will be high on confidence and she will hope to start well. Expect her to keep her winning record against Bouzkova intact and advance to the next round.
