Hartono Records First Win on WTA Circuit in 2021

Hartono is into new territory this week in Luxembourg, recording her first WTA win of the season in an impressive 3-set battle against Freidsam. The qualifier was won 58% of her service points and 40% return points to secure the win 7-6 in the third to reach the second round.

Hartono, has spent the year on the ITF circuit and has put in some impressive results, including 4 quarterfinals and 2 semi-finals, it is clear she is used to reaching the latter stages of a tournament.

One of the semi-finals came on the hard courts of Porto, where the 25-year-old lost to Tikhonova 7-6(3) 6-2. The week after she posted a consecutive semi-final on the clay, losing to Lemoine in the last 4 6-3 6-4.

With nothing to lose against Ostapenko, Hartono can go out swinging freely as there is no pressure or expectation on her shoulders.
