Katerina Siniakova v Tereza Martincova Head to Head

Siniakova leads her compatriot 1-0 although, that sole win came back in the 2015 WTA Nantes.

Siniakova, Looking for Singles Success at Home

Katerina Siniakova has achieved a great deal this season as a doubles player. Currently ranked World No. 4 on the tour, the 25-year-old Czech, with Barbora Krejcikova, conquered the Gippsland Trophy, Madrid Open, French Open, and the Tokyo Olympics (the two also reached the final in the Australian Open).

As a singles player, however, Siniakova has had trouble emulating these results but that is not to say that she hasn’t got the skills.

There have been a few events where she did reach the latter few rounds but failed to convert the said runs into a singles trophy. For instance, she was a quarterfinalist in Istanbul and later reached the semifinal in the WTA Parma. She also featured in the third round in the Canadian Open, WTA Cleveland, Wimbledon, and French Open.

Her best run came in Bad Homburg where she reached the final, only to lose to Angelique Kerber. Nonetheless, that marked Siniakova’s first singles final in more than three years.

Now playing in her first tournament since the US Open, Siniakova will look to go the distance amidst the support from the home crowd.

Martincova, Starting as a Wildcard

World No. 61 Tereza Martincova has had an erratic spell in 2021. Except for a brief run on the grass courts and a subsequent hard-court event, the 26-year-old has largely failed to leave her mark on the WTA Tour this season.

Martincova found the spotlight in WTA Nottingham and Birmingham where she reached the quarterfinal (the latter as a qualifier). Then in Wimbledon, she posted her best Grand Slam results by reaching round three and immediately followed it with a runner-up feat in the WTA Prague Open (losing to Krejcikova in the final).

That was Martincova’s first singles final – since then, she the best she has done to match it is reaching the quarterfinal in Cleveland where she was forced to retire in the final set against Rebecca Peterson.

The Czech last participated in WTA Portoroz where she lost to Sorana Cirstea in round two – a result preceded by a first-round exit in the US Open.

Siniakova v Martincova Prediction and Tip

All things considered, Siniakova has had a much better spell in 2021 than her compatriot and as a result, she will start as the favourite. Expect her to reach the second round.
