25-year-old Karen Khachanov will be participating in the Moselle Open following a disappointing stint in the US Open Series.
In the three American tournaments, the Russian’s form gradually declined – starting with a third-round exit in the Canadian Masters and culminating in the opening opening-round defeat to Lloyd Harris at the Flushing Meadows.
These results may seem a bit surprising from the former World No. 8, who won the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics after succumbing to Alexander Zverev in the final. But then again, looking at his overall season, Khachanov has had an erratic spell with only a handful of events where the current world number 27 really thrived.
At Wimbledon, he was the quarterfinalist while in Lyon and Melbourne, he went as far as the semis. With a bunch of opening-round exits in other events on the tour in 2021, Khachanov will be hoping for a much better time here in Moselle.

Muller, Gradually Shifting to ATP Circuit
Alexandre Muller, who is the current World No. 203, picked up his first Grand Slam win only this year at the Australian Open. Following that second-round appearance as a lucky loser, he attempted to build his form further but the efforts didn’t quite translate well into success.
The 24-year-old has spent the better part of the year on the Challenger circuit, competing in a plethora of events. Among the many competitions, Muller’s best run came in a string of episodes in Biella in May where he reached the one semifinal and two quarterfinals.
His last ATP event was the US Open where he lost in the qualifiers. He followed that with a couple of Challenger events in Cassis and Istanbul where he fell in the early rounds.
Here in Moselle, Muller started as a qualifier and defeated the seeded players like Quentin Halys and Bernabé Zapata Miralles in three sets to reach the main draw.
