Elena Rybakina v Magda Linette Head to Head
Rybakina and Linette have never featured in a head-to-head clash before. However, with both scoring impressive wins in their previous rounds to reach the last 16, their first-ever head-to-head clash promises plenty of thrills and spills.
Rybakina Trounces Kudermetova
Coming into the Ostrava Open after mixed results in her recent events — a last-16 finish at the Cincinnati Masters followed by a third-round exit at the US Open — Rybakina drew Veronika Kudermetova of Russia in the tournament opener.
Almost taking the anger for her failure to go deep at the year’s last Grand Slam on her opponent, Rybakina moved through the gears swiftly after the chair umpire said ‘play’.
Before the Russian could even realize what had hit her, the Kazakh tennis star had pocketed the opening set 6-1. With the momentum firmly with her, Rybakina went for the kill in the second.
Her high-press and aggressive brand of tennis fetched the desired result, as she opened up a lead over the hapless Russian after another break of serve and held on to her advantage to close out a facile 6-1, 6-3 win.
However, between the Kazakh star and a place in the quarter-finals stands rising Polish player Magda Linette. Though they have never played each other before, they will have watched enough of themselves to have a sense of their individual strengths and weaknesses.
What’s guaranteed is that there’s enough quality in her opponent’s game to be at her best and not drop her levels on match day.
Linette Fights Past Dodin
Coming into the Ostrava Open on the back of semifinal finish at the Cleveland Championships and an agonizing first-round exit at the US Open, Linette had hoped for a strong start in the tournament ad then take it from there.
While her campaign didn’t exactly get off to the kind of start that she had expected, the 59th-ranked Linette did enough to get past her opponent in the opening round.
Having cleared the qualifiers without much of a fuss to seal her passage to the main draw, Linette drew Frenchwoman Oceana Dodin in the first round.
After taking the opening set at a canter, the Pole fought off a spirited challenge from the Frenchwoman to get over the line in straight sets.
Though clearing the opening round with relative comfort, Linette faces the daunting task of getting the better of Rybakina, the current World No.16 in her next.
Rybakina v Linette Prediction and Tip
With her superior ranking, Rybakina should start as favorite in this second-round encounter. However, Linette will be keen to bring her A-game on match day in the hope of an upset.
