Pablo Carreno Busta v Holger Rune Head to Head

Carreno Busta and Rune have never been involved in a head-to-head clash before. However, both have reached the last eight of the Moselle Open on the back of impressive wins and should produce another absorbing battle in their first-ever fixture against each other.

Carreno Busta Gets Past Ymer

Playing his first Tour event since the US Open where he was sent packing in the first round itself by unheralded American Maxime Cressy, Carreno Busta eyed a strong start at the Moselle Open, hoping it would set the template for a long and successful run in the championship.

To that end, he ticked most boxes in his tournament opener, a last-16 clash against rising Swedish star Mikael Ymer.

The current World No.15 was a tad slow to hit his straps in the opening set but did just enough to secure a break of serve and win it 7-5.

In the second set, however, the experienced Spaniard found a higher gear and put paid to whatever hopes the Swede may have harbored of staging a fightback with a dominating display.

Ymer cracked early in the second set and never recovered as Carreno Busta cranked up the heat to eventually close out a comfortable 7-5, 6-2 win.

However, between the seasoned Spaniard and a place in the semifinals stands in-form Dane Holger Rune. What should make the Spaniard especially wary of Rune is the surprise element as the Dane is more of a new kid on the block in professional men’s tennis and would be keen to prove himself against a rival who is among the elite in the circuit.

Rune Upsets Sonego

Coming into the Moselle Open after recording a quarter-final finish at his last Challenger event in Szczecin, Poland, Rune scored back-to-back wins to clear the qualifying hurdles and reach the main round.

The young Dane was drawn to face Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the first round. Taking the momentum from his qualifying victories, Rune handed the Spniard a rout to breeze into the second round.

Just to illustrate the Dane’s extent of sway in the match, Miralles couldn’t win a single game in either of the two sets. With his confidence skyhigh and belief akin to a high-powered engine, Rune pulled off a stunning 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 6-4 upset of Italian Lorenzo Sonego in his next to storm into the quarter-finals.

Though the Dane has his task cut out against Carreno Busta in the last eight, his wins in the previous two rounds would stand him in good stead going into Friday’s clash.

Busta v Rune Prediction and Tip

While Busta will hold the aces in this quarter-final, especially considering his higher ranking and bi-match experience, Rune, on current form, will fancy an upset.

Tip: Busta to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
