Ymer has had a good year on tour, breaking into the top 80, and reaching three quarter-finals, The culmination of those performances came in Winston-Salem where he reached his first senior final, but he will not look back on that meeting with Ilya Ivashka, the world number 53, with any fondness – he was thrashed in straight sets, winning just two games.
From there he travelled to New York where he would have been hoping for a good run at the US Open, but more disappointment was in store for the Swede, as he was beaten in the first round by the American Jenson Brooksby.
He has just come from competing in the Moselle Open where he had a good win over the hard-hitting German, Jan-Lennard Struff n the first round. But his run was ended by Pablo-Carreno Busta, the world number 16, who has gone to reach his third final of the year in France.
