Tereza Martincova v Maria Camila Osorio Serrano Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, Osorio Serrano winning their match on clay in Columbia earlier this year in straight sets.

Martincova Enjoying Her Best Year on Tour

Martincova has recently reached a career high ranking after her best year yet on tour, although she is still searching for that first senior title. She has though won events on the ITF circuit, most recently on clay in Germany two years ago.

The 26-year old had a good grass court season, reaching the third round in Nottingham, and again at Wimbledon, where she beat Jelena Ostapenko, her best ever result in a Grand Slam tournament.

Back on clay, she then reached the final on home soil in the Prague Open, eventually losing to the French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova.

First round defeats in Montreal and Cincinnati followed, but she showed her liking for Chicago the first time round by reaching the third round before losing to the Swede Rebecca Peterson.

The Czech had the misfortune to be drawn against Viktoria Azarenka in the first round of the US Open and was then beaten in the second round in Slovenia. Last week, back on Czech soil again, she reached the quarter-finals in Ostrava, before she went down to Maria Sakkari, the world number 12.

Teenage Clay Court Specialist Osorio Serrano

Osorio Serrano won her maiden WTA title on home soil earlier this year at the Copa Colsanitas, despite starting the tournament ranked 180 in the world, beating Martincova in the process.

She then followed that up by reaching the semi-final of the Charleston Open, and, in May, added another last-four appearance to her resume at the Serbia Open.

One thing all those tournaments had on common is the fact that they were played on clay, her favourite surface, and the Columbian struggles to match that level of performance on other surfaces, although she did surprise a few by not only qualifying for Wimbledon but then going on to reach the third round before losing to Arnya Sabalenka.

The teenager has played sparingly since then. Picked to play for her country at the Olympics, she lost in the first round, failed to qualify for Cincinnati and then lost in her opening match in Chicago.

She did get past Ivana Jorovic of Serbia at the US Open, but was then beaten by Ons Jabeur, and she has not played since.

Martincova v Osorio Serrano Prediction and Tip

Although Osorio Serrano won their only previous encounter earlier this year, that was on clay, the Columbian’s favourite surface, and she had the advantage of home conditions.

The hard courts of Chicago offer a different proposition and they should favour the Czech woman.
