Jil Teichmann v Kaia Kanepi Head to Head

Kanepi has won both their previous meetings, winning in Padova 2016 and the U.S. Open in 2018.

Teichmann Looking Strong on Hard Courts

Her only two WTA titles have come on clay courts in Prague and Palermo in 2019, but it’s her hard court form that has caught the eye this season.

The 24-year-old Swiss left-hander, who reached her maiden WTA 1000 final in Cincinnati last month, had made it to the semifinals in Dubai and Adelaide and was a quarterfinalist at the Philip Island Trophy.

This week, she reached another hard court quarterfinal, defeating Angelique Kerber and Alison Riske in the first two rounds in Ostrava, but fell in the last eight stage to Petra Kvitova.

Overall Teichmann is 21-16 this season and the highlight of her season was her run to the title clash in Cincinnati, where she defeated Naomi Osaka, Belinda Bencic and Karolina Pliskova en route the final but finished runner-up to Ashley Barty.

Having found her feet on the surface, the World No. 42 will be one of the tough opponents to beat in Chicago.

Kanepi Has Struggled After a Bright Start

She won an ITF title last month on clay in Estonia, and has reached another ITF final this week in the U.S., but when it comes to the senior level the 36-year-old Estonian has found the going tough for most parts of the season.

Kanepi began the season well by reaching the final of the Gippsland Trophy and the third round of the Australian Open, but since then the former World No. 15 has not won two matches in a row on the tour.

A four-time champion on the tour, the World No. 68 last won a title in 2013 and it was after seven years that she reached another final, her ninth, at the Gippsland Trophy this year only to finish runner-up to Elise Mertens.

Teichmann v Kanepi Prediction and Tip

Although Kanepi is slated to play in the final of an ITF tournament on Sunday, her form at the top level has been ordinary. Teichmann on the other hand has been in brilliant form. Expect the Swiss to win in straight sets.
