Lloyd Harris v Christopher Eubanks Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the South African, who is 24, and the American, who is a year older.

Harris Inherits Anderson’s Mantle

Harris has inherited the mantle of South African number one from Kevin Anderson. He is still searching for major success on the senior tour, having lost his second main ATP final in March, when Aslan Karatsev beat him in Dubai.

However, he has a fine record in 2021 against top ten players, having beaten Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, and Denis Shapovalov at various points along the way.

That win over the Canadian was achieved at the US Open where he reached his first ever Grand Slam quarter-final, before losing to Alexander Zverev in straight sets.

Since then, he has played Davis Cup for his country, winning his only singles match against Brandon Perez of Venezuela, and then going on to clinch the tie in the doubles with partner Raven Klassen.

Eubanks Makes it Through as a Qualifier

Eubanks’ background is in US College tennis, where he was twice an all-American and also named ACC Player of the Year on two occasions.

On the ATP tour, he has played mainly in Futures and Challenger events, winning his first singles title in three years in Orlando in June.

He failed to qualify for the Wimbledon, Newport, and Washington after that, but, for the first time in his career , he qualified for his home Grand Slam, the US Open, winning three matches to do so.

However, his challenge was ended at the first round stage by compatriot Frances Tiafoe, beaten in four sets.

He has qualified for the first round here in San Diego by beating two men, first defeating compatriot Mitchell Krueger, and then Darian King of Barbados.

Harris v Eubanks Prediction and Tip

This should be a straightforward task for Harris, who is threatening to break in to the top 30, against the American qualifier, who has little experience of competing in main draws of senior events.

Tip: Harris to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
