Ons Jabeur v Hsieh Su-wei Head to Head

Jabeur and Su-wei have never been involved in a career head-to-head meeting before. While Jabeur has produced some strong performances this season, Su-wei took down four-time Grand Slam champion Kim Clijsters in the ongoing Chicago Open and tennis fans should be in for an absorbing battle as she goes into her first head-to-head clash against the Tunisian on Tuesday.

Jabeur Coming off US Open Round Three

Taking the confidence from a sensational run to the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon Championships followed by another last-eight appearance at the Canadian Open and a last-16 finish at the Cincinnati Masters, Jabeur opened her US Open campaign with a fighting win over Frenchwoman Alize Cornet.

The win saw her set up second-round outing against emerging Colombian Maria Camilia Osorio Serrano. Producing near-flawless tennis, the Tunisian blazed to a commanding straight-set win.

In what was tipped to be a mouthwatering third-round showdown with Belgian Elise Mertens, Jabeur couldn’t produce her best tennis and went down rather tamely in straight sets.

While the hurt of not managing to channel the confidence from her sensational Wimbledon showing into a maiden Grand Slam title will continue to wrankle, the Tunisian will have a shot at redemption at the Chicago Open.

However, she faces a tough opener against spirited Taiwanese star Hsieh Su-wei, who has typically played some her best tennis against the stars.

After the stunning upset win over 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu at this year’s Australian Open, the Taiwanese scalped Kim Clijsters in the opening round in Chicago on Monday and would be keen to do an encore against Jabeur.

Hence, the Tunisian has to play somewhere to the close to the level at Wimbledon if she is to come out on the right end of the outcome against the Taiwanese on Tuesday.

Su-wei Upsets Clijsters in Opener

Coming into the Chicago Open on the back of a disappointing second-round exit at the Flushing Meadows, the 97th-ranked Su-wei drew four-time Grand Slam champion Kim Clijsters in the opening round.

The 35-year-old Taiwanese hit the ground running as she bossed the passage of play in the first set and was duly rewarded with a break of serve. Keeping the pressure on the experienced Belgian, she took the opening set by a comfortable 6-3 margin.

Not one to go down without a fight, Clijsters roared back into contention by winning back the second set 7-5 and taking the match to a decider.

In the final set, however, Su-wei recovered from the slump that saw her drop the second set and outpaced the Belgian to eventual prevail 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

She faces another daunting battle in her next against Ons Jebeur and if the World No.16 Tunisian plays anywhere close to her best, she will be hard to beat.

Jabeur v Su-wei Prediction and Tip

While the superior ranking makes Jabeur a favorite going into this second-round clash against Su-wei, the Taiwanese, as was seen in the upset of Kim Clijsters in the first round, has the game to surprise the top stars.
