Svitolina Aiming for Chicago Double

Exactly a month ago, Svitolina picked up her first title of the season by winning the Chicago Open. On Wednesday, she will begin her campaign in the second round of the second Chicago tournament of the year as the top seed.

The Ukrainian, who hasn’t played since being outlasted by Leylah Fernandez in a gruelling U.S. Open quarterfinal, is 9-1 from her last 10 matches. Overall the World No. 6 is 36-17 this season and has been particularly good on hard surfaces.

The 27-year-old, who captured her 16th career title from 19th final by defeating Alize Cornet in the title clash at the WTA 250 in Chicago last month, also clinched the bronze at the Olympics after making a stunning comeback against Elena Rybakina. She was also a semifinalist at the Miami Open and featured in the quarterfinals of four other hard court tournaments.

Overall, she is 26-10 on hard courts this season and begins the tournament as the favourite to win the title.
