Alex de Minaur v Marcos Giron Head to Head

The pair have played each other three times before, and Giron leads their head-to-head series by two matches to one. The American won their first encounter at the Indian Wells Masters in 2019, with the Australian getting his revenge in Antwerp a year later.

Their most recent meeting came at the Moselle Open just last week, where de Minaur was also seeded, Giron winning in two sets which both went to tie-breaks.

De Minaur Looking to Avenge Last Week’s Defeat

De Minaur has twice been a winner on the ATP tour this year, clinching tournament victories in Antalya and Eastbourne to add to the three titles that he won in 2019.

It would, therefore, be a disappointment to him that he could not have performed better in the Grand Slams this year, with his third round appearance in Melbourne, followed by a second round loss in Paris and opening round defeats at both Wimbledon and at the US Open, where he lost to Taylor Fritz.

And hopes that he might put that defeat behind him in France last week were ended by Giron.

He will be doubly determined there should not be a repeat this time, and will be hoping to at least emulate his first time in Sofia, when he reached the quarter-finals.

Giron Made to Work by Spaniard

Giron was made to work for his place in the second round by the Spaniard Jaume Munar, a man more at home on a clay court, but who took the first set of their match on Tuesday on a  tie-break.

However, two breaks of serve were enough to present Giron with the chance to level the match in the second set, and when Munar was broken at the start of the third set, it looked like a routine victory for the American.

However, the match was lifted out of the ordinary by the tenth game of the third set. Serving for the match, Giron earned nine match points, only for Munar to save all of them. It was not all one way traffic, however – the Spaniard had three break points of his own saved.

Finally, though. Giron put Munar out of his misery by converting his tenth match point.

De Minaur v Giron Prediction and Tip

The fact that Giron won the match between the two only last week gives the Australian all the motivation he needs to ensure that the same thing happens again.
