Rebecca Peterson v Magda Linette Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, and Peterson has won on each occasion. Both matches took place in 2019, first in Strasbourg, and then in Nanchang, and each went to three sets.

Can Peterson Improve Her Major Tournament Record?

Despite being an experienced performer on tour, this will only be Peterson’s second appearance in the main draw at Indian Wells, and, in her last visit here in 2019, she was beaten in the first round.

In fact, her record in Grand Slams and WTA 1000 events has been poor over the years, and to third round appearances in Cincinnati are the best she has to show for her efforts.

There has been no signs of any improvement on that in 2021 – the French Open is the only major tournament in which she reached the second round.

Recently, there have been indications that the Swedish number one is finding some belated form in 2021.

She reached the semi-finals in Chicago the first time round, before losing to the eventual winner Elina Svitolina.

Three successive first-round defeats followed, including at the US Open, beaten by Elise Mertens, but she bounced back in Nur-Sultan last week, reaching another semi-final, before going down to the local woman Yulia Putintseva, in straight sets.

Linette Seeking Maiden Win Over Peterson

Linette’s record at Indian Wells is not spectacular either, but the Polish number two has reached the second round here twice, including the last time that the tournament was played.

And she does have third-round appearances in Grand Slams and WTA 1000 tournaments to her name, including both the French Open and Wimbledon this year.

Since losing that defeat at the All England club, she has experienced the lows of opening round defeats at the Olympics, Montreal, Cincinnati and the US Open and the relative high of a run to the semi-finals in Cleveland.

Last week, she was in action at the Chicago Open, where she beat the American wildcard Coco Vandeweghe, before losing in straight sets to Jil Belen Teichmann of Switzerland, the world number 39.

Peterson v Linette Prediction and Tip

Peterson has history on her side, having won both the two previous matches between the pair, but both of those encounters in 2019 were close, and Linette may just have the edge because she has the better record in this event , and in major tournaments in general.
