Svitolina is 11-2 from the previous three tournaments, which includes her only title of the season at the Chicago Open. The Ukrainian will however be disappointed with back-to-back quarterfinal defeats at the U.s. Open and the Chicago Fall Classic last week.

Ranked No. 7 in the world, the Olympic bronze medallist was a semifinalist at Indian Wells in 2019 with Bianca Andreescu bringing her winning run to an end. Svitolina will be hoping to go that deep again in her eighth appearance in the tournament.
A player for al surfaces, Svitolina has a 29-11 record on hard courts this season and she is one win away from notching her 40th win of the season.
Some of the other notable performances for the former World No. 3 this season included semifinal finishes at the Miami Open and Stuttgart Open with Ash Barty ending her run in both those tournaments. She is definitely one of the top contenders at Indian Wells this year.

Martincova Eliminates Krueger
World No. 52 Tereza Martincova overcame World No. 609 Ashlyn Krueger of the USA in the first round on Wednesday. Although the Czech won in straight sets the American gave her a tough fight in the second.
The 26-year-old Martincova, who reached a career-high ranking of 52 this week, has been pretty successful this season, reaching her first WTA final in Prague to go along with four quarterfinal finishes.
Her most recent run to the last eight stage of a tournament included a win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in Ostrava last month, but she was prevented from advancing into the semifinals by Maria Sakkari.
On Wednesday, the Czech lost serve in the very first game of the match, but she drew level immediately and then went on to break her opponent two more times to take the first set. Both players broke each other thrice in the second, before Martincova raced away with the tiebreaker for a 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) victory.

It’s a tricky matchup for Svitolina as Martincova’s been really good this year. However, the Ukrainian should still win this contest in straight sets.
