Veronika Kudermetova v Ludmilla Samsonova Head to Head
Kudermetova and Samsonova have been involved in just one head-to-head outing till date. The pair met in the second round of the Betti Open in Berlin this year, with Samsonova winning in straight sets.

Taking the hurt from back-to-back first-round exits at the US Open and at Ostrava, Kudermetova opened her campaign at the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic with a nervy three-set win over fellow Russian Anna Kalinskaya.
However, the current World No.31 produced a vastly improved performance against rising Englishwoman Harriet Dart in her next, as she thumped her in straight sets to set up a last-16 showdown with Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan.
However, she failed to sustain the momentum against Rybakina as the Kazakh star pipped her in a match that was played on similar skills and, for a large part, was hard to call in favor of either player.
After being edged out in the opening-set tiebreak, Kudermetova did put up a fight in the second but it wasn’t enough to push Rybakina to three sets.
The Russian will eye a win as she opens her Indian Wells campaign against compatriot Liudmila Samsonova on Friday.
However, it would be anything but easy going past an opponent she currently trails on the head-to-head score.

Samsonova Overcomes Kozlova in Opener
Despite taking the momentum from a semifinal finish at the Luxembourg Open, Samsonova got off to a scrappy start at the Indian Wells Masters as she huffed and puffed on her way to a labored win over Kateryna Kozlova of Ukraine in the first round.
Currently ranked 42nd in singles, the 22-year-old Russian did manage to impose herself on her opponent in the opening set, winning it by a fairly comfortable margin of 6-4.
However, she ran into stiff resistance from the Ukrainian in the second set and with both players locked at six games apiece, a tiebreak ensued.
The two players went neck-to-neck in the tiebreak as well before the Russian pipped the Ukrainian 8-6 to get over the line in straight sets.
However, Samsonova faces a far more accomplished opponent in the form of compatriot Veronika Kudermetova in her next on Friday.
While she will go into the second-round tie with the memories of her win in her only previous head-to-head clash with her fellow countrywoman, recent history alone won’t come with a guarantee of success.
Kudermetova, who, at 31, is currently ranked marginally higher than her compatriot in singles, will be itching to get her own back at Samsonova in their second head-to-head outing.

While head-to-head history will put Samsonova at a slight advantage going into this second-round clash against Kudermetova, the latter certainly has the game to go level with her compatriot this time round.
