Garbine Muguruza v Ajla Tomljanovic Head to Head

Muguruza and Tomljanovic have featured in four career head-to-head meetings, with the former holding a 3-1 lead over the latter. They last met in the second round of the Qatar Open last year, with the Spaniard coming through in straight sets.

Muguruza Beats Jabeur to Lift Chicago Title

Taking the hurt of a last-16 finish at the big-ticket Cincinnati Masters, Muguruza had her eyes on the prize as she arrived for her next event, the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic.

Opening her campaign against Ann Li of the US, the two-time Grand Slam champion blasted past her unheralded rival in straight sets to set up a second-round showdown with veteran Belarussian star Victoria Azarenka.

However, the match never got off the ground as the two-time Australian Open champion pulled out with an injury, gifting a walkover win to Muguruza.

Running into Mai Hontama of Japan in the quarter-final, the Spaniard produced a tennis masterclass to trounce her in straight sets and storm into the semifinals.

Muguruza cleared the last-four hurdle, albeit in fortuitous circumstances, as her opponent, Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic withdrew with an injury and she was awarded the tie via a walkover.

Though she profited from two walkovers in her road to the final, there was nothing remotely fortuitous about the way the Spaniard took down Ons Jabeur of Tunisia in the championship clash to lift the title.

Making a rousing fightback after going down in the opening set, Muguruza bulldozed Jabeur in the next two to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.

With her confidence sky-high and tennis in arguably the best place it’s been this season, the Spaniard will open her Indian Wells campaign against feisty Australian Ajla Tomljanovic on Saturday.

Though she currently holds a 3-1 lead over the Aussie in career head-to-head meetings, Muguruza will have seen enough of her rival to know the pitfalls of relaxing against her.

Tomljanovic Whips Arconada in Opener

Coming into the Indian Wells Masters on the back of a disappointing third-round finish at a US Open and a shocker of an opening-round performance against Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic at the Chicago Fall Classic, Tomljanovic launched her campaign against little-known American Usue Maitane Arconada.

Determined not to fall at the first hurdle this time, the 47th-ranked Aussie bageled the American in the opening set and dished out more of the same treatment in the second to race home 6-0, 6-2.

However, the road to the third round won’t be as easy for Tomljanovic as she will go up against familiar rival and two-time Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza on Saturday.

Trailing 1-3 on career head-to-head count, the Aussie will be determined to post another win over the vastly experienced Spaniard but the job, as she knows all too well, is easier said than done.

The champagne shower from yet another career Tour title in Chicago is yet to dry off on the current women’s World No.6 and she will be in the mood for another at prestigious Indian Wells Masters.

Muguruza v Tomljanovic Prediction and Tip

While ranking, head-to-head history and current form makes Muguruza an obvious favorite going into this second-round clash on Saturday, Tomljanovic has beaten her before and will eye an encore this time.

Tip: Muguruza to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
