Anett Kontaveit v Martina Trevisan Head to Head

20th-ranked Kontaveit has played 66th-ranked Martina Trevisan once before this. That meeting came in Gstaad in 2017, with the Estonian coming out on top in straight sets.

Kontaveit Won Her 3rd Career Title In Ostrava

Making her fourth appearance at the BNP Paribas Open will be Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit who celebrated her return to the world’s top 20 a week ago. Kontaveit’s third career title in Ostrava served as a major turning point, as defeated Maria Sakkari (her sixth Top 20 win of 2021) in the final.

Considering her success in Cleaveland and Ostrava are just four weeks apart, she comes to the desert as a dangerous floater in the women’s draw and undoubtedly one of the most in-form players.

With 32 wins this campaign, she is now just two shy of matching her previous best of 34, garnered during the course of the 2018 season. But with only 14 defeats this season, she is on course to make this her career-best season by some distance.

Kontaveit withdrew from her scheduled second-round match in Chicago due to injury. According to reports from Estonian papers, the 25-year-old cited a thigh injury as the reason for pulling out from the preparatory tournaments of Indian Wells.

Trevisan Defies the Odds to Beat Bouzkova

Martina Trevisan pulled the rabbit out of the hat and scored a fantastic victory over World No. 93 Marie Bouzkova on Thursday. The Czech did not make the cut in the initial entry list and only got into the draw as a late replacement for Ekaterina Alexandrova who pulled out on the eve of the tournament.

At the start of the week, the Italian had posted qualifying wins over Hailey Baptiste and Reese Brantmeier to reach the Indian Wells main draw for the first time.

And against Bouzkova, she was slow off the blocks, recovering from a first-set deficit to take the lead. Despite losing the second set in a tiebreaker, Trevisan broke Bouzkova’s serve three times in that final set to win.

Trevisan posted meagre numbers on serve, especially on her second delivery where she won just 29% of points. But Bourzkova’s game leaked far too many errors to let the Italian World No. 66 off the hook. Trevisan will need to improve considerably to hold off Anett Kontaveit who will crush the ball with so much power and accuracy.

Kontaveit v Trevisan Prediction and Tip

Kontaveit is past her injury fears having successfully warmed up by playing doubles a couple of days ago. This should be a routine by a victory by the looks of things.

Tip: Kontaveit to win AND under 19.5 games: 6/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
